WHO ARE THESE MEN THEY CALL "KNIGHTS"?
The "Knights of Columbus" is the largest laymen organization
in the world.
Faith,
Family and Fraternity make up the foundation upon which the Knights
of Columbus stand. Their programs and projects make a big difference in
the Auburn community.
FAITH: One of the primary goals of the Knights of Columbus is
helping the Catholic Church to remain vigorous and undiminished. This
Council is a major contributor to the support of both St. Joseph and St.
Teresa.
FAMILY: The family is paramount to the knights of Columbus. Our
programs and activities allow families to work and play together to benefit
the church, community and one another.
FRATERNITY: Along with the good-fellowship that comes with being
part of a fraternal organization, our members enjoy working together to
assist people who have special needs within our community.
Auburn Council 6149 was
established on May 20, 1969 by Frank Weigl who moved here in 1964 and
was the past Grand Knight of Pasadena Council No. 1174, a former District
Deputy and a Past Faithful Navigator of Cabrillo General Assembly. Our
Council replaced the old Auburn Council No. 2276, which was instituted
on May 15, 1921 and dissolved April 7, 1934.
While our council is known for its great breakfasts and dinners, there
are many other activities in which the council is involved. Some of these
activities are….
Church
Each year the council keeps Christ in Christmas by making available religious
Christmas cards to the parishes. Proceeds from this sale are used to support
seminarians and finance activities for other religious programs.
Community
In October of each year our council conducts a fund drive to raise monies
to aid people with mental retardation. We hold blood drives each four
months and have gathered up to 200 pints in a year.
Family
We promote within our council "Knight of the Month", "Family
of the Month", and "Family of the Year" programs, honoring
knights and families who exemplify the values taught by our Church and
our order. Each December we honor our deceased brothers with a memorial
Mass and Communion.
Council
We gather each third Thursday to enjoy a potluck meal and share in fellowship.
We also have council activities such as breakfasts and dinners for the
Knights and their families. Each year we have an end-of-the-summer Bar-B-Q,
Past Grand Knights Banquet, Charter dinner and Christmas dinner. We also
sponsor a weekly bingo game and a large amount of the proceeds are used
toward our church debt reduction.
Youth
Columbian Squires - An organization for young men ages
10-18. Please Steve Kujawa at 530-823-5859 for more information.
We sponsor a free throw contest and an essay contest and offer scholarships
for youth in our local schools and the Placer County area. We also prepare
and serve 120 to 140 Bar-B-Q hamburger lunches for the local high school
students as a part of the "Auburn Teen Ministry Task Force Out Reach
Program".
Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 in
New Haven, Connecticut.

Knights of
Columbus Columbian Squires
If you’re a Catholic young man, 10 to 18 years old, you’re
invited to join our Squires group called a “circle.” In the
Columbian Squires we learn to be leaders-by serving others. By learning
to serve others, a Squire becomes a better person, a better Catholic and
the world becomes a better place in which to live. Our circle meets the
second Wednesday of the month in the Large Conference Room at 7:00pm.
Please contact Steve Kujawa at 530-823- 5859.

THE ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION
www.icf.org
The Italian
Catholic Federation is a 16,000 member organization founded in San
Francisco in 1924, with 200 chapters nationwide. The Auburn Branch #342
at the Parish of St. Joseph / St. Teresa of Avila has 180 members and
meets monthly on the first Tuesday at 7:30 P.M. Both men and women may
join. Dues are modest and family memberships with children are encouraged.
Members are generally Italian in origin but the Federation has many non-Italian
members who enjoy the fellowship and faith.
They are a Catholic organization which:
Receives Communion as a group;
Gives money and time to our Parish;
Supports the Parish school;
Visits rest homes and works with the elderly, the needy, and the
developmentally disabled;
Supports Life Pregnancy Services with dollars and goods;
Supports our clergy and seminarians; and
Donate scholarships to high school graduates.
The Italian Catholic Federation also sponsors dinners, dances, trips,
and festas because they believe social interaction is important for a
healthy parish community.

Driggs 530-878-2664.

THE CATHOLIC LADIES’ RELIEF
SOCIETY
We are part of 10 Societies organized from April, 1888 to April, 1960.
The purposes, according to the Articles of Incorporation, are "to
aid and assist, and care for the indigent poor within the Diocese of Sacramento
of the Roman Catholic Church; and to aid in the support of indigent poor
and abandoned children of and in said Diocese and to aid in the support
of charitable institutions and to found new ones and Subordinate Societies
in said Diocese when convenience or necessity may require, and to the
end that said objects may be accomplished."
Our Society #6 was organized October 7, 1924. Other Societies are: Sacramento,
Marysville, Chico, Colusa, Grass Valley, Roseville, Gridley, Citrus Heights
and Oroville. In each location the needs may be somewhat different or
more urgent, but each Society works from September to June; and our efforts
are reported on during a Grand Council in May; and we gain insight and
support from our sharing of these exchanges. Our Society #6 meets the
2nd Thursday of each month from September to June in the Fireside Room
at St. Joseph Hall on Atwood Road, next to St. Teresa Church. We socialize
with "bag" lunches before our meeting, which starts at 1:00
pm.
Our charities include diapers and layettes to Salvation Army and serving
at funerals. Our service charities include helping with Bingo at Hilltop
Convalescent Hospital, assisting in the Auburn Area Christmas Basket Program,
assisting in the parish office, the Convent gift shop, Pink Ladies at
Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, the K. of C. Tootsie Roll Drive and the
Blood Drive. We answer the call to give rides, send cards, and make handmade
gifts, quilts, afghans, etc. Our funds are obtained from our card parties,
Bridge group, parish breakfasts, and with donations from the Knights of
Columbus and the Italian Catholic Federation, along with small member
donations. We operate somewhat like the Knights, in as much as we do have
some potlucks and "Dutch treat" lunches interspersed throughout
the year to keep the camaraderie going. If there are any questions about
our small group of approximately 35 members, please call our President,
Flo Mooneyham (530) 878-7203. She will welcome any new members into our
Society.
WE ESPECIALLY WANT TO THANK THE HARD WORKING KNIGHTS WHO VOLUNTEER THEIR
ENERGY AND EXPERTISE AT SETTING AND TAKING DOWN THE TABLES AND CHAIRS
FOR OUR SOCIAL EVENTS AND TO BE THERE FOR US WHENEVER WE NEED THEIR HELP.
GOD BLESS YOU!
